Immaterial Matters: Degradable Wax and Aggregate Brick Casting Workshop

This workshop examines applicable uses for building with temporal materials within the field of architectural fabrication and construction practices. In today’s construction sequence, we generate vast amounts of building material waste, incurred both through acts of construction and demolition, which go to our landfills. Learning from conceptual artworks, such as Robert Smithson's Partially Buried Woodshed this workshop will explore the act of material entropy. Participants will learn how to make biodegradable wax and gravel aggregate bricks through a short lecture. Each participant will have the opportunity to learn about the process and cast two bricks of their own design. Upon demolding, the bricks will be assembled and allowed to entropy. After the workshop, detailed records will be kept regarding the rate of entropy for the materials. Number of Students: 10 Students
